Pitfalls, Problems and Perfection

The creation of a website is new to me, well so is creating a business, but that’s another story. I’ve struggled with trying to create my perfect site and falling far short (more about that later). It’s been a steep learning curve for sure, what with trying to remember all of my previous photographic knowledge and experience. Creating a photographic backdrop and setup that would work without the additional lighting I need. Basic photograph editing with software I’d forgotten how to use. Not to mention navigating the website templates and programs to find the one that best fit my vision for my site and then trying to get it to do what I wanted rather than what it was already set up to do. You don’t realise all of the complexities that go into creating a website when you first embark on its creation. To all of you out there who have created your own websites….

I Salute you.

To top it all off the hardest thing for me was the battle I fought with myself. That constant little voice inside my head that kept on telling me….. you can’t do this …… what were you thinking ….. it doesn’t look any good …… it’s no where near as good as “insert name here”

Like most artist’s I know, the search for perfection is an addiction there’s very little cure for. But as I created this site I realised my perfectionism is one of my strongest and most valuable skills. I’m going to be constantly striving to “perfect” my website but most importantly I am going to be constantly striving to perfect my work. I’m never going to be satisfied with near enough, or, done is good enough, and I am going to embrace this part of me.

I do, however, need to cut myself some slack.

A friend of mine told me to insert the word YET, when I feel I can’t do something or if something doesn’t quite fit my vision. So now when that little voice inside my head starts telling me I can’t do something, I hit back with “YET”, and she shuts up for a little while - until the next time.

So, … “I’ve struggled with trying to create my perfect site and falling far short”…. and its not perfect ….

Yet

I’d love to hear from you if you’ve had a similar experience with perfectionism and how you get that little voice to quiet down so you can actually get stuff done.
