#Meet The Maker ....... Prompt 6 : REDUCING WASTE
The best way I have found to reduce my waste as an artist is to
Repurpose, reuse and recycle.
Not wanting to, or able to, keep on buying that new item or storage solution. Finding that perfect purpose for that item that’s too good to throw out, or has sentimental value and is just stored or cluttering up your home.
For me, I couldn’t afford to buy those purpose built pencil storage drawer units that I’ve drooled over for so long.
But I did have a heap of cheap picture frames awaiting use and had a lightbulb moment.
I lined the frames with felt material (picked up at reverse garbage) and got my dad to cut down some timber for me to use as shelves and spacers and wallah.
Pencil storage.
They are completely removable and work a treat.
I use a lot of repurposed items in my studio for storage… I have old style, hard children’s school cases to store paint. I reuse wooden and cardboard boxes, jars, coffee tins, as well as some cute second hand mugs picked up from (dare I say it), the side of the road, hard waste throw out, to store my art supplies.
I love it when I find the perfect use for an unused item I already have taking up space in my home. Or even find the perfect solution for something at Reverse Garbage https://reversegarbage.org.au/. I cannot recommend Reverse Garbage highly enough for taking waste items from industry and business out of the waste stream.
