#Meet The Maker ....... Prompt 11 : RANGE

Spectrum Red Orange Yellow.JPG

I work in a range of different mediums. I can work in graphite, coloured pencils, pastel, pastel pencil, scratchboard, ink, gouache, and watercolour. I often chose to use a combination of different media in a single piece. But my preferences, and I believe my best work is with pencils. I love the control I have with them and the effects I’m able to achieve as a result.

I think this is probably my favorite work to date and I wanted to walk you through some of the range of materials I used to create it. I used a sanded paper from #colourfixpaper and lay down some #panpastel as a base, then alternating between pastel pencils by #derwentpastelpencils and #fabercastellpittpastelpencils for mid level detail. Once I was happy with those layers I started the colour pencil layers for the highest level of details. I’m pretty sure with this one, I used ALL the pencils.... #polychromos #derwentartists #derwentlightfast #derwentstudiopencils #carandacheluminance and even some watercolour pencils. The bright white highlights - particularly on some of the teeth, the nose and in the eye, were done using the #brushandpencil products. The finished piece got a spray of fixative for protection and wallah! It really isn’t unusual for me to incorporate a heap of different supplies in one piece. I hope you found my process explanation interesting or even if it helps any fellow artists out there.

I’d love to hear about your practices or of a work that you are particularly proud of.
