#Meet The Maker ....... Prompt 10 : AUTHENTIC SPACE

Spectrum Green Blue Purple.jpg

It’s taken a while ….. a long while, to finally get myself a studio and longer still to get it to a workable place. Now I know not everyone can have a studio setup in their home, I’m one very lucky girl. I’ve also got one serious addiction to new art supplies, that forces me to constantly reassess my storage - but that’s an entirely different blog.

My studio is mostly in a constant state of flux.

Even now, looking back through my photographs, I realise that I have made a number of changes since their taking.

Now I’m a bit of a bargain shopper and I hate paying full price for things especially if I can find an equivalent that will do the job, cheaper - and no, before you say it, I’m not tight, just frugal. Who can afford to be otherwise in this day and age.

I’ve found that once something has been labelled as “art” supplies, you can pretty much guarantee an increase in price. With that in mind, Kmart is pretty much my best friend, ooh and Ikea (who doesn’t love Ikea storage) I’m particularly fond of using kitchen organisational products to help keep my studio organised.

Repurpose, reuse and recycle.

As I wrote in an earlier blog post, I created these pencil “drawers” from repurposed picture frames and remnant fabric. I really need to redo the labels on some of them, ooops.

A second hand spare monitor, a clip on lamp from Ikea, basic 2 drawer units from the stationary section at Kmart, bamboo kitchen storage trays also from Kmart as well as the cute mugs I picked up from the side of the road.

Ok, So I’m going to be honest, the top photos are definitely the more “instagram” type photos, (well as much as I get anyway). The photo above is pretty much the work in progress look, but still on the unusually tidy side of things (for me).

So hold onto your hats people

It’s not unusual for my studio to have more of a, …. how should I put this ….. , lived in look?!

Admittedly these were taken post photo shoot of my art supplies for use on my website, but in all honesty, this state is not unusual.

I’d love to see your studio or hear about any storage ideas or solutions you’ve come up with.
